Set for April 12 at Beauchamp Stadium
With Easter just around the corner, the Beckville Band Boosters are hosting the second annual Beckville Bash Egg-stravaganza at the R.C. Beauchamp Stadium on Saturday, April 12, 2014. From 10:00am to 3:00pm, many activities are planned for a fun-filled day for the entire family including a bounce house, face painting, bingo, a cakewalk, pony rides, a silent auction and a 42 tournament. Entry fee for the tournament is $10/person or $15/team. The Easter bunny will make a special appearance and also be on hand for photos with photographer Mindy Casterline.
Vendors will set up around the stadium selling a variety of items including arts and crafts. Vendor booths are available until April 8 for $30 and $40 with electricity. After that date, the fee for each increases $10. All the monies raised help fund the band trip to Disneyworld this summer. The band makes a trip every two years and a total of $80,000 must be raised to cover expenses for all students, directors and chaperones.
Another feature of the “Egg-stravaganza” is live music with various local groups. Starting the show at10:00am is the Praise and Dance team from Mt. Zion Baptist Church. At 10:30am, Mrs. Rhonda Heard’s Sunset Elementary choirs will perform and at 11:00am the Jazzcats, a jazz band made up of Bearcat Band members, will be on stage. At 11:30am the “Texas Made” rock band from Project String Power will take the stage, and at 1:00 the Brandon Pierce Band will showcase their talents. Band directors Bogs and Hargett are members of this band. The last to perform for the day is Paul Brevard. The highlight of the day is the Easter egg hunt beginning at 11:30am. Students up to the 5th grade may participate in the egg hunting. Age groups will be divided so that the younger kids have a chance to find eggs and not have to compete against the older kids.
James Bogs, Director of the Beckville Band since 2012, has had great success with the group. “When I moved to Beckville we had 33 kids in the 7th-12th grade band and no students in the 6th grade band. We’re the fastest growing organization in Beckville ISD with 70 kids in the high school band and 40 sixth graders now participating. We have 12 students competing in the State UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest in May, plus we have one twirler competing at the state level. Our 37 member jazz band just returned from touring at Sunset Elementary, Panola National Bank, Panola Nursing Home and the Boardwalk in Bossier City. Adding Assistant Director, Felicia Hargett, has been a big help with the number of students we have and we’re both looking forward to making the trip to Disneyland a memorable experience for the kids.”
The Boosters are looking for sponsors to help cover expenses for the “Egg-stravaganza.” If interested in helping the Bearcat Band reach their goal for the trip to Disneyworld, contact Booster President Angela Weaver, 903.263.6119.
